Fall
©2002 Michael D. Renneker
Standing in a storm, the wind is at my back, but I am stable
High on a mountain road, the jagged rocks below, but I am calm
When I’m a about to lose it over something stupid
I can hold it together
When the sun has not yet risen on my disposition
I still see the light
and if you ask me why this is, I don’t know
but it all comes down to this
You never let me fall
Even when I got down there and crawled
You never let me go
even when I could not sink more low
You never let me fall
even when I had no hope at all
You dragged me from the river, attitude and all
You never let me fall
The enemy returns, he is disguised as habit and temptation
With flag in hand he tries to stake his claim, my soul, but I’ve a shield
when the war between the factions of my heart is raging
there’s a peaceful surrender
if I slip and fall into the brightly colored darkness
I can choose the light
and if you ask me why this is, I don’t know
but it all comes down to this
chorus
feels like I’ve just pulled a crime, was sentenced to years in jail
the Judge, He let’s me off each time no matter how bad I’ve failed
and if you ask me why this is, I don’t know
but it all comes down to this
chorus
