One Night, One Light

She was in & out of foster homes, till she reached the age of 10
that’s when the Johnsons from the local church finally took her in
for the very first time in her life there was love & warmth & peace
and it took awhile but the bruises healed, the fear & anger ceased
she had never heard the story of the lord & saviors birth
so she hung on every word she heard inside that little church
& when they lit the advent candle & placed a star atop the tree
it was the first time, she could remember, that there was joy on Christmas eve
CHORUS
one night, one light
& nothing will ever be the same again
one night, one light
flowing outward from the source
in many different shapes & forms
His love is with us from now on, since that
one night, one light
in a fit of anger he left home 10 years ago today
he & his father could not get along, so many bitter words exchanged
through the years the Lord brought wisdom, humility & grace
so he booked a flight & went back east to see him face to face
he walked up the snowy walkway & finally rang the bell
they both stood silent there for a moment, then in each others arms they fell
thru happy tears, mom lit a candle & placed a star atop the tree
& for the first time, in a decade there was joy on Christmas eve
CHORUS
a dad & son united, a little girl who’s found a home
and into countless other peoples lives on this night, His love has shone
it was a dark & cold December night, there was no room at the inn
so they laid him in the dirty hay, the Son of God & man
that north stars light was bright enough to guide wise men along
but it did not compare at all to the face, it shone upon
and from this moment, and forever there is joy, on Christmas eve
CHORUS
